Ten in a Row for Golden Sixty

23 November 2020

Golden Sixty claims tenth consecutive victory.

Days after a spectacularly successful 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale at Karaka, the leading two-year-old sale’s name is in lights again thanks to one of its superstar graduates.

$300,000 purchase Golden Sixty (Medaglia d’Oro) has become an unstoppable force in Hong Kong, scoring his tenth consecutive victory in Sunday’s HK$4.5 million Group Two Jockey Club Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin. Golden Sixty has now won 13 of his 14 career starts, earning more than HK$38 million (NZ$7 million).

Patiently ridden by his regular pilot Vincent Ho, Golden Sixty blew his rivals away with a scintillating sprint in the home straight and drew away effortlessly to win by a length and a half.

“I’ve never been in a Formula 1 car, but I feel like riding him is probably similar,” Ho said. “He’s a once-in-a-lifetime horse for me. Lots of jockeys dream of having a horse like this, and I’m extremely grateful to Mr Lui (Francis Lui, trainer) and the owner Mr Chan (Stanley Chan Ka Leung) who have supported me and trusted me and kept me on. The whole stable, whole team feel really lucky.

“He felt good today and sprinted home really well. The main goal was to settle him as normal and to relax him and hit the line strongly. He will always produce a really good last quarter.”

Golden Sixty, who is only the fourth horse in Hong Kong racing history to win ten races in a row, now has next month’s HK$25 million Group One Hong Kong Mile (1600m) squarely in his sights.

“He’s one of the best horses in Hong Kong at the moment, that’s for sure,” Ho said. “He’ll be competing at Group One level now, and hopefully we will be winning next month. That was our main goal and main target from last season, and these three races have been really good preparation for him. He’s got stronger each race and I’m really happy with how those races panned out for him.”
