The Chosen One (NZ) Dominant in Zacinto
27 October 2018
Making just the second start of his career, The Chosen One (NZ) (Savabeel) scored a dominant black-type win in Saturday’s $70,000 Listed Zacinto Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton.
The well-bred youngster, who was passed with a $150,000 reserve at the 2017 Premier Sale at Karaka, was an easy debut winner at Waverley on October 4.
He faced a big step up in class on Saturday but was equally impressive, leading for most of the way and kicking clear to score by two and a quarter lengths.
“It was very impressive,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said. “For a horse who was only having his second start, and having to work early after being slow away, it was an excellent performance.”
The Chosen One is now a leading contender for the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on November 10.
Zacinto Stakes runner-up In A Twinkling (Fastnet Rock) is also a Karaka graduate, bought for $250,000 by Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis at the 2017 Premier Sale.
The Chosen One has now had two starts for two wins, earning $50,000 in prize-money for owners R L Bonnington, A G, C P, G, K J, Mrs P A & P R Dennis, Miss J L Dunlop, D G Forde, P M Jeffares, P Johnstone, G R Miller, G J Popham, Ravelston Stud Ltd, G R Redington, T V Rider, Mrs N C Robertson & N van Schaik.
