Third Leg Of Southern Filly Series Draws Quality Field

26 March 2003

Competition for the title of 2002-03 New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year is hotting up. Sunday's New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes, Listed ($30,000, 1400m) at the Otago Racing Club has drawn a field of 16 starters, including several fillies that are already featuring on the points table.

Heading the points table so far are Flying Coup (Tuscany Flyer x Blue Blarney) and the Peter & Dawn Williams trained Tonic (Blues Traveller x Sent To War) both with 7 points. Tonic will line up again on Sunday and although Flying Coup is not in the field Tonic will not be short on competition.

Magic Bow (Magic of Sydney x D'Or Veille) trained by Hec & Steve Anderton, has 3 points in the series and a win in this would give her a lead of 10 points. The filly has consistent form with a second last time out.

Other classy fillies in the field include the well bred Irish Belle (O'Reilly x Society Bay) who is from the family of Society Beau and top filly Final Destination. Irish Belle has won both of her last two starts, as has another filly in the field the Ross Beckett trained Kizkardes (Hadaad x Political Economy).

Last start winners who could also feature in the finish are the likes of the Kevin Morton trained filly Chit Chat (O'Reilly x Girls Talk), Shane Marr trained Shima (Shinko King x Angie Beaufort) and the Graeme Rogerson & Stephen Autridge trained Voice (Volksraad x Silver Star).

The points allocated to each race in the series is 7 points for first, 3 points for second and 1 point for third.
