Third Stakes Winner for Coats Choice

20 February 2012

The Paul Richards trained Natuzzi (NZ) ran his rivals into the ground on Saturday as he raced away to win the $47,500 Listed ILT Ascot Park Hotel Southland Guineas 3YO (1600m).

Ridden by Chris Johnson, Natuzzi (Coats Choice x Monsanto) took up the running at the 1000 metre mark and led the field into the straight where he sustained a strong gallop all the way to the line to claim his first black-type race by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

From just six starts, the three-year-old son of Coats Choice who came into the race after running third in the Listed Metalon Guineas (1400m) earlier this month, now has three wins to his credit.

Natuzzi is the third stakes winner for Coats Choice who has also sired dual stakes winner Milo and No Choice. Standing at Berkley Stud, Coats Choice - a stakes placed son of Redoute's Choice - had a highly successful Karaka 2012 with his colt from Illusive Hope (Lot 1274) bought by Michael Stedman Bloodstock for the equal top price of the Festival Sale at $70,000.

Bred by Stuart & Sue McGiffert, Natuzzi was purchased by Laurie Beckett from Three Valleys at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds for $9,000.
