Top-equal Price of Opening Session
28 January 2018
Byerley Park-based training duo Bruce Wallace and Allan Peard have secured the top-equal price of the opening session with a colt by More Than Ready for $500,000 under the Wallace Thoroughbreds banner.
The colt who is a half-brother to Group 2 winner Ego (NZ) (E Dubai) and two other stakes performers in Ready Steady (NZ) (Perfectly Ready) and Sans Souci (NZ) (Pins) was prepared by Haunui Farm and offered in their draft at Lot 84.
“We saw him during the parades out here and really liked the look of him. He is a big raw-boned type who has a lot of scope about him and a great pedigree,” said Peard.
“We’ve bought him for a Hong Kong client who has raced a number of horses with us.
“It was a tough battle and I thought we had him $100,000 earlier than his final price.
“He looks like a sprinting type although you can never tell at this early age. He has a pedigree that could make him a stallion with the right racetrack performance but you just never know.”
All five yearlings consigned and offered at the night session by Haunui Farm sold for $1.13 million at an average of $226,000.
