Totality Win in Three Rings Trophy

18 February 2013

A three month spell has proved a successful move for the connections of Totality (NZ) who took the biggest win of his career last night in the Sgp-3 Three Rings Trophy (1400m) at Kranji.

Not seen on the track since November last year, Totality (Danroad x Brindillemousse) turned his form around with a tough fresh-up performance in the Sgp-3 contest, sticking to the fence on the home corner and producing a late turn-of-foot under jockey Alan Munro to win by half a length.

Trainer Michael Clements - who won his first Group race with NZB Ready to Run graduate Dontellthewife (Volksraad) in 2011 - was pleased with Totality’s performance.

“He’s always had a huge amount of potential but we’ve had to teach him to settle,” said Clements.

“He was just too strong in his races so I thought I’d give him a spell and although he came back fresh, he was a lot more relaxed today.

“I didn’t trial him last week as I didn’t want to fire him up, but at the same time just keep him nicely tuned up for his return and to win first-up out of the paddock is a credit to his qualities.”

Raced by the Classican Stable, the win was Totality’s fifth of his 19 Singapore starts and has taken his stakes earnings to just shy of $300,000.

Bred by Collins Bloodstock Ltd, Highview Stud Ltd & John Opray, Totality was purchased by Michael Clements from Brent Gillovic’s Highview Stud at the 2010 Karaka Select Sale for $40,000.
