Tough Sea Lord Impresses at Moonee Valley

Street Cry five-year-old Sea Lord has hit the track running this season, picking up his second career victory at Listed level at Moonee Valley on Saturday in the $120,000 Chandler Macleod Stakes (1200m).

The Stephen Brown trained gelding won fresh up at Moonee Valley over 1200 metres in late August and made it two starts for two wins for the season with Saturday’s tough victory.

Sea Lord (Street Cry x Dream Lass) had to work in the early stages of Saturday’s race for jockey Luke Currie, coming across from his wide barrier of 10 to settle behind the race leader. Taking the lead at the top of the straight, the son of Street Cry fought hard to hold off the late finishing Amah Rock (Fastnet Rock) in a driving finish to win by the narrowest of margins.

Sea Lord won his first stakes race at age three in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill. His three-year-old season also saw him run third at just his second race appearance to Blackball and Buffering in the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes (1200m).

Bred by P Newman, Sea Lord was purchased by Les Samba from Seaton Park for $400,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Karaka Premier Sale. Raced by Mr P Jones, Illusions Racing and Point Picquet, Sea Lord has won five of his 19 starts for over A$270,000 in stakes.

From one of New Zealand's leading families, Sea Lord's dam Dream Lass (Dream Well) is a winning daughter of Rationable and is a half-sister to Group 2 winners Vigour and Joey Massino, and Listed winner Vincent Mangano.
