Uprize Cruises To Victory In The New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes

13 April 2004

Uprize (Prized x Impossible Dream) continued her unbeaten race record in yesterday's penultimate leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year series. The talented sister of group one winner Surprize Surprize managed, easily, a step up in class as she contested the listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes. The win sees the filly earn 7 points in the series and currently puts her in second place.

The Peter and Dawn Williams-trained filly had won two earlier 1400m races at Riccarton and Ashburton. She will now be aimed for the Warstep Stakes, the 2000m listed race that concludes the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year series.

Kims Coup (Kashani Marcasite) and Hi Yo Wassup (Al Akbar x Luscious Kiwi) also entered the points table yesterday as they fought it out for second and third respectively.

The current leader in the series, Classic Clare (Gold Brose x Funny Features), could only manage seventh place in the race leaving her with 14 points. Despite yesterday's run two wins in the earlier stages of the competition have guaranteed the Mike McCann-trained filly a winning position.
Whether she will share the title with Uprize will come down to the running of the Warstep Stakes at Riccarton Park in two-and-a-half weeks.
