Waikato RC's Million Dollar Carnival

15 February 2005

Veteran Group 1 performer Sedecrem (Faltaat x Real Trier) put a spate of unlucky races behind him on Saturday when he won the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa for the second time. Sedecrem had not won a race since last year's event despite a number of close calls.

The gelding was purchased from the New Zealand Bloodstock Festival Sale by Mercedes' Managing Director, Ernie Ward, for $22,000, and has now won three Group 1 races for trainers Colin Jillings and Richard Yuill.

Earlier in the day the second-to-last leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series, the Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Fillies Classic, was won by promising three-year-old Tusker (Volksraad x Stella Artois). Tusker had recently run third in last month's Group 3 WRC Hyundai Wellington Stakes.

Authoress (Fuji Kiseki x Weaver of Words) ran an impressive second and Danex (Danasinga x Balm) finished third.
