Waikato Spearheads Six Wins for Laxon andSeven for Jumaat

3 August 2009

Sunday's Singapore meeting was packed full of impressive achievements, none more so than the seven winners ridden by Saimee Jumaat and the six winners trained by Kiwi expat Laurie Laxon, achieved with the help of six NZB graduates.

The biggest race of the twelve programmed was the Group 3 $200,000 Singapore TC Jumbo Jet Trophy which was taken out by last night's lethal combination of Karaka graduate plus Laurie Laxon and Saimee Jumaat.

New Zealand bred Waikato (Pins x Skywalker Wilkes, by Skywalker) landed his second successive Jumbo Jet trophy, having beaten Fantastic Owners in the 2008 event.

Last night he returned to his favoured 1400m distance, over which he has now won twice on three attempts, in weight-for-age-conditions, to down a handy field of thirteen after tracking a red-hot pace.

Race favourite Waikato defeated Any Humour (Danewin) by a long-neck with a powerful turn of foot 200m out, with Super Gold (Golden Snake) finishing three lengths behind in third.

Having now earned $1.15 million in prize-money, the son of Pins has been a wonderful galloper for his owners Silver Fern Racing Stable. The five-year-old was purchased by Laurie Laxon at the 2005 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale for $50,000 from Highview Stud.

Waikato's top-performing sire, Pins, will be represented by four lots at New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale this Friday, including:
