Well Done (NZ) Wins Sgp-1 Patron’s Bowl
20 June 2016
With a powerful finish, Well Done (NZ) (Falkirk) took out Sunday’s S$500,000 Sgp-1 Patron’s Bowl (1600m) at Kranji and raced his way into contention for next month’s Singapore Derby.
Trained by David Kok and ridden by champion Australian jockey Glen Boss, Well Done settled well back in the field before taking shortcuts along the inside and bursting to the front in the home straight.
Majestic Moments (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Believe Yourself (Sebring) tried to go with him, but Well Done was too strong in the last 100 metres and held on to score by a neck.
“This is my best day in the office,” Kok said. “I knew he would become a very good horse for us. I’ve long aimed him towards the Singapore Derby. To be honest, I thought the Patron’s Bowl would be an ideal prep run to the Derby, but he’s done better and won it.”
Well Done has now had 15 starts for five wins, five placings and more than S$250,000 in stakes.
“I got on him in a barrier trial and I could feel that horse had a lot of charisma, even in trackwork,” Boss said. “Once he got the gap, he showed a nice turn of foot inside the 150 metres, and at that point, I knew he would win.
“It takes a good horse to do what he did and I think he will be a strong chance in the Derby.”
Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Well Done is one of six winning foals out of the stakes-winning mare Gold Cloud (NZ) (Truly Vain).
Well Done was purchased from Windsor Park Stud for $90,000 from the 2013 Ready to Run Sale.
The Patron’s Bowl produced a quinella for Karaka graduates, with Majestic Moments fetching $115,000 at the 2013 Premier Sale.
Well Done will attempt to continue a proud record for New Zealand-breds in the Singapore Derby, which includes recent winners Spalato (NZ) (Elusive City), Chase Me (NZ) (Storm Creek), Clint (NZ) (Casual Lies), Race Ahead (NZ) (Al Akbar) and Lim’s Prestige (NZ) (Pins).
