Whoshe Wins Northern Foal Stakes
30 May 2011
The Richard & Chris Otto trained Whoshe made the jump to stakes level at Ellerslie on Saturday with ease as the grey filly produced a tough performance in the Listed Novotel Auckland Ellerslie Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m).
In what looks to be a very promising prospect for her owner R MacDonald, Whoshe (Storm Creek x Lesley Coup) beat some strong and more seasoned company in Saturday's Listed event, in addition to racing wide throughout much of the race.
Having only three starts on the track, Whoshe was unplaced in a good field at Te Aroha on debut but was quick to make amends, winning her next start at Dargaville under Mark Sweeney before her stakes victory on Saturday with Sweeney again in the saddle.
Whoshe is the 17th individual stakes winner worldwide for her sire Storm Creek who also sired the Group 1 Levin Classic winner Eileen Dubh. Whoshe is from the Prized mare Lesley Coup, a half-sister to the Group 3 Winter Cup winner Shamrock Star.
A graduate of the 2009 Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, Whoshe was purchased by Mr NR Donald from Twin Pines for just $5,000 as a weanling. She has now won in excess of $30,000 in stakes.
