Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale this Friday
31 July 2013
New Zealand Bloodstock’s Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale will be held at the Karaka Sales Complex this Friday, 2 August, commencing at 12pm.
This is the last chance for buyers to purchase breeding stock for the new season which officially starts on 1 August. With 77 broodmares catalogued, including 19 entered through the supplementary catalogue, there is ample opportunity for breeders to invest in new stock for the upcoming season.
Sires with broodmares in the Sale include Centaine, Redoute’s Choice, Savabeel, Stravinksy and Zabeel who has one of the largest drafts. The damsire of 110 stakes winners, Zabeel was New Zealand and Australia’s Champion Broodmare Sire last season and he heads both tables this season with just a few weeks of racing remaining.
The Sale also includes mares who were served by such young sires as Iffraaj, New Zealand’s leading second season sire who has produced five stakes winners from his first crop, as well as Cape Blanco, Jimmy Choux, Makfi, Redwood, Showcasing and more.
The catalogue has been strengthened since going to print with updates to a number of pedigrees in the catalogue. Updated pedigrees for the lots in question can be viewed here.
Notable updates include:
- Lot 53, Dubai Century (Military Plume), the dam of recent debut winner Just for J (Falkirk) in Singapore.
- Lot 52, Dominica, another mare to have a winner in Singapore in July with her son Zac Command (Ishiguru) winning on 21 July.
The Sale also includes yearlings (2), two-year-olds (5), unraced horses (4) and racehorses (13) and there have been several noteworthy updates in these sections of the catalogue as well.
Fastfast (Iffraaj), Lot 70, added significantly to his pedigree by winning a further two races since the catalogue went to print. He was a winner on 1 July at Matamata in a Rating 65 then stepped up to Rating 75 level at Taranaki on 20 July, producing another win for trainer John Sargent.
The supplementary catalogue, released today, has added an additional 19 broodmares, a yearling, three two-year-olds, an unraced horse and a racehorse to the Sale.
The broodmare section has attracted a range of mares covered last season by quality sires such as Shocking, Alamosa, Guillotine, Sakhee’s Secret, Dalghar, Any Suggestion, Iffraaj and Jet Spur.
Highlights of the supplementary catalogue include:
- Lot 83, Goolagong, a young Irish-bred mare out of a stakes winner in Ireland, served by Shocking last season.
- Lot 84, Kanpur, the dam of stakes placed Chennai (Towkay) who has been covered by leading first season sire Alamosa.
- Lot 96, Zephyr, by champion broodmare sire Zabeel and closely related to successful sire Grand Lodge. She was covered by Jet Spur in 2012.
- Lot 100, Catalina Lady, a seven-time winner by champion Australian sire Flying Spur. She was covered by international stallion Dalghar last season.
The Sale will also feature 24 horses owned by the Estate of Jim Campin which will be offered on an unreserved basis.
