Zebulon (NZ) Makes Triumphant Comeback at Adelaide

30 April 2016

Making his first start for more than 15 months, Zebulon (NZ) (All American) made up for lost time with a stunning four-length victory in Saturday’s A$100,000 Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap (1400m) at Morphettville.

Ridden by Harry Coffee, Zebulon raced well back in the field before taking charge with an impressive turn of foot. He raced away down the straight and left his rivals gasping in his wake, clocking 1:22.38 for the 1400 metres.

Zebulon has now recorded two wins and four placings in a career that has been restricted to just eight starts to date for trainers Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison.

A leading contender for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas after showing enormous promise early in his career, Zebulon missed most of his three-year-old season with a serious tendon injury. If Saturday’s sensational comeback is anything to go by, the best may be yet to come.

Zebulon may be given the chance to compete in even higher grades during the upcoming Queensland winter carnival.

“We want to see how he pulls up first, but Brisbane’s definitely on the radar,” Morgan said.

Bred by Mrs K A Picton-Warlow, Zebulon is the only foal out of the Irish-bred Saint Ballado mare Saint’s Review. The third dam is the American Grade 1 winner No Review (Nodouble).

Zebulon was presented at the 2013 Select Sale by Lyndhurst Farm. He was purchased for $60,000 by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock. Saturday’s win boosted his earnings to A$172,410.
