When can you insure your foal?
Any stage after 24 hours old

What type of cover is available?
Standard foal insurance covers mortality, with optional add-ons such as colic surgery and scoping for foals going to the National Yearling Sale. Call the team if you have any questions around specific insurance or add-ons.

Do you need a vet certificate?
Yes, a current vet certificate is required for all foals under 30 days old

What is an IgG?
An Immunoglobulin G test is a blood test that gives an indication of the amount of antibodies in the foal's blood that they have absorbed from the mare's colostrum. Cover from 24 hours of age to 7 days needs to be approved with an IgG test, taken within the first 24 hours of birth for an accurate result.

What breed of foals can be insured?
NZB Insurance can insure any breed of foal.

What is required to get a foal insured?
When getting in touch, NZB needs some basic details around the foal like dam, sire, sex, date of birth and the GST inclusive value you would like to cover your new foal for.

How do you determine the value of a foal?
You may calculate the value of your foal based on the sire service fee, dam purchase price or performance. However, our bloodstock team is available to advise should you need assistance here.
