8 Length Stakes Success for NZB Ready to Run Graduate

12 November 2012

In a rare front-running display, Ready to Run Sale graduate Kullu turned Saturday’s $50,000 Listed Gold Club Metropolitan Trophy (2500m) into a one-horse affair as he destroyed the field by eight lengths at Riccarton.

Kullu’s (Elvstroem x Way Cool) victory could not have been more timley, with New Zealand Bloodstock’s two-day Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs kicking off on Tuesday next week (20 & 21 November).

With the Ready to Run Sale producing an average of 14 individual stakes winners per season for the last five seasons, Kullu is the second stakes winner for the Ready to Run Sale this season.

Trained by Mandy & Matt Brown, Kullu jumped straight to the lead in the Listed event and that was the closest his opposition got to him as he shot to a ten-length lead on the back straight and extended that margin to 15 lengths 800 metres from home.

Ridden by David Walsh, the six-year-old son of Elvstroem gave his rivals no hope of running him down as he entered the straight 12 lengths clear and, in a gutsy performance, raced to an eight-length victory, his first at stakes level.

Karaka graduates filled the first four places past the post with Dancing Embers (Istidaad) and Miss Isle (Bachelor Duke) racing into the minor placings and the Group 3 New Zealand Cup winning South Island Sale graduate Blood Brotha (Danzighill) finishing fourth.

Raced by the NZB sponsored gold medal Olympian Mark Todd with Mary & John Hutton, Hanlin & Kate Johnstown, Humphrey & Debra Rolleston & Ngapuke Racing Ltd, Kullu has now won three of his 32 starts with a further 15 placings for over $70,000 in stakes.

Bred by Culvane Pty Ltd & Erinvale Investments Pty Ltd, Kullu was offered by Chesterfields Ltd at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2008 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale will be held next week on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 November beginning at 11am each day. To view the catalogue of 407 entries, click here. To view the Breeze Up clips, click here.
