Single Currency Bounces Back
12 November 2012
After a long absence, the tough sprinter/miler Single Currency (NZ) broke through for a deserved victory at stakes level at Te Rapa on Saturday in the $50,000 Listed Timpson Family Trust Sprint (1200m).
The Bachelor Duke Festival Sale graduate (ex Pennies in Heaven) had knee-chip surgery which saw him side-lined for almost a year but he made a positive return to the track when finishing fifth fresh up to Nashville late last month.

Trained and part-owned by Chris Wood, Single Currency has not had the best of luck in previous black-type attempts but that changed on Saturday. Given a lovely trip by jockey Danielle Johnson, he outclassed his rivals in the straight, quickening in the final stages to get the better of rival Kasumi (Shinko King) to win by half-a-length with Antonio Lombardo (Pins) finishing third.
Single Currency proved himself a leading performer in the spring of 2010 winning four of his eight races that campaign – with a further two placings – before finishing out of the money in the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile.
Raced by Chris Wood in conjunction with G Mander, Mrs F McDonald, G McMahon, P Proverbs, R Rosenberg and Miss J Wah, Single Currency has now won seven of his 17 starts for just shy of $100,000.
Bred by Mr B & Mrs J Mullane, Single Currency was purchased by Chris Wood from Hallmark Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2008 Karaka Festival Sale for $29,000.
