Annabel Rose Joins Southern Filly Lead
11 March 2013
Pins filly Annabel Rose raced her way to a share of the lead in NZB’s Southern Filly of the Year Series and made it 50 stakes winners for her sire with victory in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed NZB Insurance Stakes (1400m) at Wingatui.
The John & Karen Parsons trained filly (Pins x Carinda) was obliged to race three-wide for the trip but that did little to dampen her efforts in the straight as she got the better of rival Berenice after the pair were stride for stride for much of the straight.
Annabel Rose was making her stakes debut in the race and the victory earns her seven Series points, giving her a share in the lead with Emerald Queen (O’Reilly) who won the first leg of the four race Series, the NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes, also earning seven points.
John & Karen Parsons also saddled Keynote (Pentire) who finished third, earning one Series point, while the Michael Pitman trained Berenice (Holy Roman Emperor) raced well for second place, earning three points.
Annabel Rose was bred and is raced by Bev Jones and has now won two of her 11 starts for $34,500 in stakes.

Annabel Rose completed an outstanding weekend for Waikato Stud sires and is the 50th stakes winner for her sire Pins, a great achievement for a horse that was a Group 1 winner on the track and now a proven source of stakes and Group 1 winning thoroughbreds at stud.
The next leg of the Series, the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes (1600m), will be held at Riccarton on Saturday 6 April.
