Nandowra Caps off Big Week for Savabeel
11 March 2013
Savabeel capped off a big week in style on Friday night with his son Nandowra putting in a determined effort to win Friday’s S$200,000 Sgp-3 Polytrack Mile Championship (1600m) at Kranji.
Savabeel’s progeny are running hot at present and celebrated a Group double on Wednesday last week with Sangster winning the Group 1 Auckland Cup and Diademe winning the Group 3 Westbury Classic.

The Michael Freedman trained Nandowra (Savabeel x Fabaz) won the Sgp-3 Moonbeam Vase (1800m) in April last year, his fourth consecutive race win at the time. However, since that Sgp-3 victory he had not won another race until Friday night where he had to fight back after being headed in the straight to win by a short head.
“I knew he would be very fit as he was just coming back from a long distance race,” said Freedman. “He’s a good genuine stayer and has always been thereabouts in his races as he’s such a fighter.
“He rarely puts in a poor run but I would say he’s been unlucky at his last couple of runs, like he was caught behind runners at his last start and just couldn’t get out in time.”
Freedman is keen to target more Group races with the son of Savabeel and is looking to the Sgp-2 Queen Elizabeth Cup (1800m) on April 26.
“The QEII Cup is a race I have in mind for him, and maybe the Moonbeam Vase which he won last year,” said Freedman.
Nandowra is raced by the Results Stable and has now won eight of his 24 starts for over $700,000.
Nandowra was bred by Garry Chittick who also bred last Wednesday’s Group 3 winner Diademe as well as the Group 3 Lowland Stakes winner High Fashion (O’Reilly) on 2 March. The five-year-old was purchased by Peter Moody from Waikato Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for just $25,000.
