Born to Rock Gets Black-Type
20 June 2011
The Mike Moroney trained Born to Rock showed her class at Ipswich on Saturday as she produced a tough performance to take her first black-type race in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m).
Ridden by jockey Mathew Palmer, Born to Rock (Fastnet Rock x Call Me Pretty) was taken straight to the front from the barriers and set a solid pace before going two lengths clear in the straight. The end result a one-and-a-quarter length win, her fourth victory from 11 race day appearances.
Formerly trained by Stephen McKee, Born to Rock contested two legs of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series in her eight New Zealand starts this season before being transferred to the Moroney stable. The win was her second in Australia after winning first up at Ipswich in early May.
Born to Rock was offered by Esker Lodge at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale and has now earned over $100,000 in stakes.
