Fulton Keeps on Flying

12 March 2012

The Mark Walker trained Flying Fulton capped off a big weekend for the Te Akau operation when claiming his third black-type win last night at Singapore in the Sgp-3 $200,000 Polytrack Mile (1600m).

Ridden by jockey Opie Bosson - who the day earlier had returned to New Zealand for a winning Group 1 ride on the Jason Bridgeman trained Karaka graduate Warhorse - Flying Fulton (Flying Spur x Fulton) proved too good, winning by a length-and-a-half after producing a powerful finish in the straight.

"He's a great horse and even though he was wide today he just kept rolling into the race," said Walker.

"He loves the Polytrack and the 1900 metres is about as far as he wants. I just don't think he gets the 2000 metres on grass.

"We'll look to the Marsling Classic (1800m) at the end of the month and then make plans for him after that."

The victory was the five-year-old's second at black-type level this season after winning the Group 3 New Year Cup at Kranji on New Year's Day. His nine race wins also include the Sgp-3 Committee's Prize which he won in September last year.

Bred by Tony & Joe Bongiorno, Flying Fulton was offered by Trelawney Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2008 Karaka Premier Sale.

He was later offered by Mana Park at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2008 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds where he was purchased by David Ellis for $210,000. He has now won over $730,000 in stakes.
