Group 1 Winner Flies Flag for Ready to Run Sale
25 October 2016
Whether he goes by his original name of Gaultier (NZ) (Rios) or his new name Simply Invincible, the Group 1-winning galloper continues to excel on racetracks, flying the flag for next month’s Ready to Run Sale.
Purchased at the 2013 Sale for $17,500, Gaultier won last year’s Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) at Trentham for Matamata trainer Danica Guy prior to his sale to Hong Kong.
Now named Simply Invincible and trained by David Hall, he has won another two races including a sparkling performance in Sunday’s HK$1,235,000 HKJC Carl F Bucherer Excellent Handicap (1600m) at Sha Tin.
Producing the same turn of foot that carried him to his biggest New Zealand win, Simply Invincible and rider Zac Purton raced in midfield before creeping forward to be within striking distance at the home turn. With a powerful sprint at the top of the straight, Simply Invincible raced past the leaders and scored by two and a half lengths in the quick time of 1:34.35.
In addition to the NZ$147,225 he earned in eight starts in New Zealand, the gelding has won more than HK$1.69 million in Hong Kong prize-money.
