A half-brother to Alamer by Tavistock is entered in the Karaka 2016 Select Sale at Lot 797 from Te Runga Stud.

With just six previous starts under her belt, Alamer was a winner three starts ago over 1150m for Cambridge trainer Roger Lang.

“I have always held a high opinion of her,” commented Lang. “She is a light type and haven’t been able to do a lot with her but that was a good win.

“She has ability – she should have run closer in the Listed Soliloquy Stakes but she got checked.”

Commencing from barrier 9 for jockey Samantha Collett, Alamer was the first away, allowing her to quickly cross over to find the rail. Retaining the lead as she entered the top of the straight, Alamer raced away with Dukedom (NZ) (Bachelor Duke) chasing but he was unable to catch her as she won by three-quarters-of-a-length over Dukedom with Sultan of Swing (NZ) (Bachelor Duke) in third.

“We may put her out now but will just see how she comes through this and have a chat to Tim Harrison, one of her owners, she has a great syndicate behind her. The Eight Carat Classic over a mile may be a possibility,” adds Lang.

The three-year-old filly has won $37,690 in prizemoney for her connections Tim Harrison, her breeder, R C & Mrs S A Lang, P J Parker, I W McErlich, H Brittains, B Watkins, S & Mrs D Bason, Est late K Newdick, K & Mrs A Shearer, G Hill & D J McKeown.

The daughter of Alamosa is out of stakes winning mare Clerio (Soviet Star), winner of the Group 3 Curragh Matron Stakes, who is a half-sister to stakes winning Bahr (Generous), winner of the Group 2 Royal Ascot Ribblesdale Stakes.

Alamosa claimed a notable double at Ellerslie on Saturday with Stolen Dance (NZ) (Alamosa) winning the other stakes races at the meeting, the Group 3 Eagle Technology Stakes. The Wellfield Lodge based sire has 24 yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 with a strong draft of 17 horses catalogued in the 2016 Select Sale.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series will take place from 25 January – 31 January at Karaka. The catalogue can be viewed online or can be requested from reception@nzb.co.nz
