Helping Hand For Vendors At Autumn Yearling Sale

10 February 2003

New Zealand Bloodstock today announced that any yearling which was passed in at the recent National Yearling Sales will be offered free entry into the Autumn Yearling Sale in May.

The Autumn Yearling Sale will be held in conjunction with New Zealand's major breeding and mixed sale, the National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, scheduled for May 11, 12 & 13.

We understand how difficult market conditions are at present for vendors of yearlings at what is considered to be the middle to lower end of the market. We want to help those vendors who invested in getting their yearlings to the National Sales, but ended up passing them in, to have another opportunity to offer their yearlings without a further entry fee, explained General Manager, Bloodstock & Marketing, Julia Naismith.

No doubt some passed in yearlings will be prepared for the Ready to Run Sale or kept to race, but there are still many people who would like to move their yearlings on sooner rather than later.

In considering the best timing for holding the Autumn Yearling Sale, we do believe that running it in conjunction with our National Weanling & Broodmare Sale presents the best opportunity for success. To gather a good buying bench for a standalone yearling sale of around 100 lots would be a tough task, but by running it at the same time as the big Weanling & Broodmare Sale, vendors should benefit not only from the extensive bench of local buyers, but also the number of Australian buyers who come over for this sale.

The success of the sale will be determined to a fair degree by the quality of yearlings on offer, but we do anticipate some nicely bred yearlings to feature in the sale.

New Zealand Bloodstock will certainly endeavour to promote the sale and attract the best possible buying bench for the event. Waiving the entry fee for those who have already paid a passing fee will help to make the Autumn Yearling Sale a more affordable option for re-offering yearlings, particularly as those which sell in May will have their passing fee reversed, commented Julia Naismith.

The Autumn Yearling Sale is planned to be held on the Monday session of the three day sale, on May 12. Entries for the National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale, including the Autumn Yearling Sale will close on Wednesday March 5. The sales will be held at Karaka on May 11, 12 & 13.
