Keeper on Fire with Another Stakes Win

28 March 2011

Cambridge Stud stallion Keeper is on fire with another daughter notching up a stakes win with Platinum Princess taking the $65,000 Listed Valachi Downs South Island Thoroughbred Breeders F&M (1600m) on Saturday.

Trained by the in-form Lisa Latta, Platinum Princess (Keeper x Merle Park) raced well in the straight, coming from off the pace with Rosie Myers in the saddle to run down Kudamm in the final strides to claim her first stakes win.

A highly consistent mare, she has made 25 race day appearances for five wins and nine placings, earning her connections over $100,000 in stakes.

It is the second black-type win for her sire Keeper in seven days with his brilliant daughter Midnight Oil winning the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks last Saturday. He is now the sire of 19 individual stakes winners and is currently fourth on the New Zealand General Sires Table behind Pins with combined progeny earnings of over $1.1 million.

Platinum Princess was bred by Karreman Bloodstock and was purchased by her trainer Lisa Latta from The Oaks Stud at the 2008 Karaka Select Sale for $115,000. The mare is raced by Lincoln Farms Ltd & N J McAlister, a partnership that has already tasted success this season with Lisa Latta and Lincoln Farms seeing Fort Lincoln win the 2011 Karaka Million.
