Sea Lord Impressive in First Stakes Win
28 March 2011
Three-year-old colt Sea Lord made it a stakes winning double for NZB graduates at Rosehill on Saturday taking the first on the card, the A$100,000 Listed Parramatta Advertising Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).
Not getting all favours in the straight, Sea Lord (Street Cry x Dream Lass) and jockey Glyn Schofield were forced to wait for a gap on the inside, and when it came the three-year-old was very impressive, running down his rivals to win by half-a-length.
From one of New Zealand's leading families, Sea Lord's dam Dream lass (Dream Well) is a winning daughter of Rationable and is a half-sister to the Group 2 winners Vigour and Joey Massino, and the Listed winner Vincent Mangano.
Trained by David Payne, the win was Sea Lord's third of his career, with each of his victories coming this campaign. Bought by Les Samba from Seaton Park at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for $400,000, the son of Street Cry has now won over A$145,000 in stakes.
A half-brother to Sea Lord by No Excuse Needed was purchased by Stephen Gray for his Singapore stable at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for $95,000.
