Crossing the line with his ears pricked in the hands of Douglas Whyte, the classy three-year-old remains unbeaten with seven wins and over NZ$700,000 to his credit.
In breaking the record, Entrapment (Halo Homewrecker x Miabondialee by Vettori) surpasses the 26 horses with six wins to their name in a single season, and is another highlight for Karaka graduates and New Zealand bred horses in Hong Kong.
Raced by Benson Lo Tak Wing, Entrapment is trained by current premiership leader John Size. One of Size's most successful gallopers to date has been champion stayer and NZB South Island Sale graduate Super Kid.
John Foote bid to $45,000 to secure Entrapment from Scott Eagleton's Seaton Park at the 2008 Carnival Yearling Sale. With now an even stronger case for this season's Champion Griffin and Most Improved Horse honours, Entrapment becoming the Most Improved Horse this season would complete a hat-trick for Foote and NZB, with Group 1 HKJC Champions Mile winner Sight Winner (Faltaat x Kinjinette) followed by More Bountiful (Van Nistelrooy) last year.
A regular visitor to the South Island Sale, Foote purchased More Bountiful for $38,000 from Little Avondale Stud.
Entrapment is one of a long list of successful Hong Kong gallopers purchased by the Queensland-based bloodstock agent, none more successful than Silent Witness. In Hong Kong this season, Foote's purchases have won 25 of 48 races with other successful NZB graduates including Show Time (Faltaat), Win Win Charm (Howbaddouwantit), National Treasure (Pins) and Legend (Deputy Governor).
This season has seen New Zealand horses dominate black type success in Hong Kong, with seven kiwi gallopers claiming 11 black type wins including four Group 1 victories, double that of any other rival nation.
New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale is set for Friday 6 August at the Canterbury Agricultural Park. This and the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale catalogue will go online this Friday and will be posted early next week. Email reception@nzb.co.nz to request catalogues.
