NZB Trifecta in Ryder Stakes
29 July 2013
Orbity (Magic Albert) led home a New Zealand Bloodstock trifecta in the Listed $50,000 Courtesy Ford Ryder Stakes (1200m) on Saturday, continuing a purple patch of form that has seen her win four in a row for the training partnership of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman.
The Ryder Stakes for two-year-olds was run this year at Awapuni instead of its traditional base of Otaki due to the state of the Otaki track. The heavy11 track conditions were made to suit for Orbity, a Karaka 2012 Festival Sale graduate, as she powered through the ground for her most important win to date.

Orbity jumped well from the 1200 metre start and landed outside the leader in the early running. She was allowed to stride up to put pressure on the leader and as the field wheeled around the bend, she burst to the lead to draw away for a comfortable three-and-a-half-length victory for rider Matthew Cameron.
Orbity was able to fend off valiant late efforts from Weregoingtogetcha (Testa Rossa) and Fascination Street (Elusive City), both Karaka 2012 graduates to complete a NZB trifecta.
“It was a brave win as she had to sit outside the leader and was just too strong in the straight,” commented Baker. “She had very good form going into the race having won her previous three starts.”
Further black-type plans are on the agenda for Orbity in the new season.
“We will head to the Listed fillies race at Wanganui in September,” said Baker. “She is an Australian owned horse and the plan is to accumulate as much black-type as possible with her.”
The two-year-old filly showed her appreciation for the heavy track as she recorded her third win on the testing track conditions from three attempts. Orbity has never been out of the money with an overall record of four wins and four placings, including a second to Group 1 winner Ruud Awakening, from eight starts with earnings of $53,185. .
Bred by Mrs L A Morton, who races the filly in conjunction with G B Morton, Orbity was sold by Highden Park at the Karaka 2012 Festival Sale for $15,000.
