Perfect Timing by Fastfoot
23 July 2013
The John Sargent trained Fastfoot (Iffraaj) showed impeccable timing as he swamped the field late to win the $25,000 Seaton Park Rating 75 (1400m) at Taranaki on the Saturday. The timing was not only perfect on the track but off it as well, as Fastfoot is catalogued to go under the hammer at the upcoming NZB Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale on 2 August at Karaka.
The three-year-old gelding has been in top form this preparation being placed in all four runs since a spell, winning his last two in a row both in July.
Fastfoot settled midfield on a testing winter track at New Plymouth, as the field wheeled into the straight jockey Alex Forbes went to the outside to find the better ground. Second placegetter Ashalini had stuck to the inside and opened up a gap on the field while Fastfoot showed an electric turn of foot to burst pass the leader and score by 1.5 lengths.
“He has really stepped up in his last couple of starts,” commented trainer John Sargent. “He has the ability to handle the wetter ground which helps this time of year.”
With the horse being entered in the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale it is hard to plan for the horse but Sargent believes there could be more wins in store.
“He has really matured as a racehorse this preparation and we are seeing the results now,” commented Sargent.
Fastfoot is by the leading second season sire Iffraaj, who is enjoying a wealth of success as the sire of recently crowned Filly of the Year Series winner Fix. Fastfoot is the only foal to race from his dam, Catch the Day (Keeper), a half-sister to Group 2 MVRC Woodstock Classic Oaks winner Pure Harmony (Stravinsky).
The win was the third in the career of Fastfoot and takes the horse’s overall record to 19 starts for three wins and 10 placings for earnings of $37,875, laminating what a consistent horse he is.
Fastfoot is Lot 70 in the racehorse section of the upcoming Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale. The Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale will commence at 12pm on Friday 2 August at Karaka.
In conjunction with the Winter Sale there will be a Stallion Parade held before selling starts, from 10am on Friday 2 August. There have been a number of well-credentialed stallions already confirmed for the parade and all potential breeders and interested parties are encouraged to come to Karaka to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. See table below for a full list of confirmed stallions.
Supplementary entries are still open for the sale until Friday 26 July and entry forms can be downloaded here.
