Ready to Run Sale Graduate Claims Chinese Derby
14 July 2014
A New Zealand bred son of stallion Iffraaj made it back to back victories when he scored in the Chinese Derby (2000m) at Khorchin on Saturday.
A graduate of the 2013 NZB Ready to Run Sale, where he was sold by Jeremy Whale’s Diamond Lodge for $55,000 to the bid of Mr Lang Lin of the China Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group, the son of Iffraaj is unbeaten in three starts and does not officially turn 3 until next month. The colt from Palace Music mare La Musica was bred by Haunui Bloodstock Ltd and careered away to score a decisive victory in the 2000m classic in front of a capacity crowd at the Northern China racetrack.
Amongst a delegation from New Zealand on track to witness the performance was breeder Mark Chitty who remarked “It was a terrific performance. It is a great result for Haunui Farm and also a great result for New Zealand in an emerging market like China. You’d like to think that would provide further encouragement for Mr Lang Lin to again attend our Ready To Run Sale.”
