Sister to Estonian Princess at NZB Broodmare Sale
28 April 2014
The narrow win by Estonian Princess (Snitzel) in the Group 3 A$150,000 James HB Carr Stakes at Randwick on Saturday has provided her full-sister My Fiancee (Snitzel) with a significant pedigree update for New Zealand Bloodstock’s upcoming National Weanling & Broodmare Sale.
My Fiancee is catalogued at Lot 394 in the broodmare session of the Sale, being sold as a breeding proposition. My Fiancee and Estonian Princess are by Snitzel out of Meet My Sis (Prized), who is already the dam of the Group 2 Sandown Guineas winner Schilling (Bianconi).
Estonian Princess showed a dazzling sprint as she came from last on the corner for rider Brenton Avdulla to overhaul Northern Glory (Northern Meteor) in the last stride, winning by a nose.
The victory provided her trainer Scott Apsery with not only his first stakes success but his first metropolitan winner as well.
“She is just tough,” said Aspery. “Whatever you throw at her she just does 100 percent. She doesn’t always get the result but she tries hard every time.
“We went to the Adrian Knox instead of the Carbine Club because we thought that gave us more options going forward if we went to the Oaks.
“She didn’t run the 2000m so we dropped her back in distance and it was fantastic, it looks like the seven furlongs is just right for her.”
Saturday’s win was the third career success for Estonian Princess and took her prizemoney to A$341,575 for her owner Mrs V C Williams.
Estonian Princess and My Fiancee are both by Snitzel who is enjoying a great season siring the likes of Group 1 winners Shamus Award and Snitzerland, and sits in second position on the Australian sires premiership behind his father Redoute’s Choice. Snitzel is also the dam sire of Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Mossfun (Mossman).
New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale will be held on 12 & 13 May at Karaka with 284 weanlings and 209 broodmares catalogued, plus yearlings, two-year-olds, unraced stock, horses-in-training, racehorses and stallion shares.
