Super Easy (NZ) Hits Unbeaten Record

Singapore’s leading trainer Michael Freedman has labelled his star Super Easy (NZ) a “once in a lifetime horse” after the four-year-old took his 12th straight victory in Singapore last night in the $200,000 Sgp-3 Jumbo Jet Trophy (1400m) to equal the record of unbeaten runs on the Singapore track.

Super Easy (ex Parfore) was one of seven kiwi bred winners in Singapore last night, and one of three by his sire Darci Brahma, and took his stardom to a new level as he equalled the record of 12 unbeaten runs set by Karaka graduate Better Than Ever (French Deputy).

A revelation in Singapore, Super Easy’s win last night in the Sgp-3 Jumbo Jet Trophy was one of his toughest to date, but he pulled out all the stops to get the better of race leader Captain Obvious (Verglas) who pushed him to the limit.

“I was a bit worried he wasn’t going to get Captain Obvious,” said Freedman. “I thought we were going to run second to a good, tough old sprinter.

“To be giving Captain Obvious three or four lengths start into the straight on a track that has been suiting leaders I thought was a very good effort and would be right up there with one of his best wins to date.

“It took all his ability to run him down today but the way he raced I think he’s going to enjoy the softer tempo of the mile.

“I thought one of his best wins was in the Singapore Guineas (in May) which was over the mile and the way he’s going now I think the mile is going to be ideal for him.”

Bred by Michael Ryan, Super Easy was offered by Esker Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 Karaka Premier Sale where he was purchased by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds for $140,000.

Raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable, his remarkable career has seen him earn over $1.2 million.

Freedman celebrated a treble at last night’s meeting with Karaka graduates and progeny of Darci Brahma.

In addition to Super Easy, another smart youngster to carry the 'super' moniker - Super Shadow (NZ) (Darci Brahma x Golden Dawn) - won his debut in the 1000m event.

Raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable who celebrated a winning double, Super Shadow gave race leader Super Spirit a good start at the top of the straight but produced a late charge inside the final 100 metres to win by half a length.

Super Shadow was purchased by Tim Stakemire from Gordon Cunningham’s Curraghmore Stud for $60,000 at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale in January. A highly successful pinhook, he was later purchased by Michael Freedman and Michael Wallace from Curraghmore Stud for $320,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds in November.

Freedman’s affiliation with Darci Brahma’s progeny saw him pick up a third winner for the evening, and take him to the top of Singapore’s Trainers’ Premiership by wins, with Ronnie Brown (NZ) (ex Leigh Valley) maintaining his unbeaten status in the $50,000 Tsim Sha Tsui Class 4 Handicap (1200m).

Also purchased by Michael Freedman and Michael Wallace from the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale, the colt was sold by Wentwood Grange for $170,000.

Ronnie Brown romped home on debut in early August by four-and-a-half lengths and last night’s performance also turned heads as he used his early speed from the outside gate to lead, cruising home in the straight to win by just under two lengths for his owner the Mummify Stable.
