The Expert Vendors of NZB's Ready to Run Sale

This year’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale has attracted a large selection of 62 vendors, including 30 who are consigning a draft for the first time.
NZB’s Ready to Run Sale has established itself as the leading Sale of its kind in Australasia through racetrack results. The past six seasons have seen 115 stakes wins by graduates of the Sale all over the world.
Much of the success of the Ready to Run Sale can be attributed to the expertise of the vendors that prepare horses for the Sale, with the kiwi consigners refining the preparation of juveniles into an art form.
The reigning leading vendor at the Sale is Diamond Lodge who rose to the top for the first time in 2013. Among the graduates of Diamond Lodge’s draft last year was impressive debut winner Caped Crusader (NZ) (O’Reilly) who was purchased by Round Table Racing/James Harron Bloodstock and is now trained by Gai Waterhouse in Sydney.
Diamond Lodge has 20 horses catalogued in the Sale including:
- Lot 57, a colt out of Group 1 winning sprinter Miss Raggedy Ann by Exceed and Excel.
- Lot 201, a colt by colt by Savabeel out of triple Listed winner mare Tonic.
- Lot 264, another colt by Savabeel who is a full-brother to Group 2 winner Diademe.
Prior to last year, Lyndhurst Farm had an exceptional six-year run as the leading vendor and were a narrow second last year. Lyndhurst Farm was responsible for three of the four Group 1 winners for the Ready to Run Sale last year with Albany Reunion, Atlante and Glorious Days.
Lyndhurst Farm will present a draft of 20 two-year-olds this year including:
- Lot 135, a colt by Savabeel out dual Listed winner Royal Show and half-brother to Group 2 winner Folding Gear.
- Lot 194, the first foal out of Group 1 winner The Party Stand, a colt by Stratum.
- Lot 237, a colt by boom sire Fastnet Rock out of stakes winning mare Apple Charlotte.
Breeders of recent Group 1 Ready to Run Sale winning graduate Turn Me Loose, George and Maryanne Simon, present a draft of 22 horses under their Mana Park banner.
Mana Park was the third leading vendor at last year’s Sale and has a quality draft this year including:
- Lot 36, a half-brother by Darci Brahma to Group 2 winner Fears Nothing.
- Lot 138, a colt by Iffraaj out of Ruqqaya who is a half-sister to champion racehorse Ocean Park, winner of five Group 1 races.
- Lot 360, a son of Group 1 winning mare Foxwood by Testa Rossa and half-brother to Group 3 winner and Group 1 runner-up Rockwood.
The largest draft in this year’s Sale is provided by Kilgravin Lodge with 31 two-year-olds by a wide range of Australian and New Zealand sires.
Highlights of Kilgravin Lodge’s draft include:
- Lot 80, a half-brother to champion filly Alinghi by boom sire Fastnet Rock.
- Lot 251, a full-brother by Darci Brahma to Group 1 winner Guiseppina out of dual Listed winner Battocchi.
- Lot 349, a half-brother by Alamosa to Group 3 winner Ric O’Shea out of stakes placed mare Fellowship.
The largest first time vendor draft comes from Kiltannon Stables who have 17 horses catalogued in the Sale including:
- Lot 8, a half-brother to the stakes placed Midnitemagicman out of Keep Alight, the daughter of dual Group 1 winner Our Tristalight.
- Lot 211, a colt by Iffraaj out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Eileen Dubh.
- Lot 396, a son of Group 3 winner Just a Dream.
Successful yearling sale vendors Haunui Farm are also offering their first Ready to Run Sale draft and have 10 horses catalogued including:
- Lot 49, a son of triple Listed winner Midnight Babe by Haunui Farm stallion Iffraaj.
- Lot 119, a son of freshman Haunui Farm sire Showcasing out of a half-sister to Group 2 winner Red Hannigan and Listed winner Vital Agreement.
- Lot 269, a colt by Redoute’s Choice out of Listed winner Bonaichi, a daughter of Group 1 winner Bonanova.
Matamata-based Bradbury Park will present a draft of 12 two-year-olds at the Sale with a strong representation by Kiwi sires with a mix of Australian sires as well.
Highlights of Bradbury Park’s draft include:
- Lot 198, a son of Group 1 Auckland Cup placegetter Tin Goose by Mastercraftsman.
- Lot 277, a filly by first season sire Shocking out of a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Second Coming.
- Lot 308, a half-brother by Onemorenomore to Group 2 winner Curved Ball and dual Listed winner Isopach.
These drafts are just an example of the quality of offered by all vendors at the Ready to Run Sale.
