9 May 2005

Results and statistics following the conclusion of the second day of theNational Weanling, Broodmare& Mixed Bloodstock Sale.

WEANLINGS

The General Weanling Session concluded the weanling offering for this year's National Weanling & Broodmare Sale at Karaka today, with fair results for most vendors.

New Zealand Bloodstock Marketing & PR Manager, Petrea Vela commented, "There have been mixed results over the weanling sessions seen here on Friday at the Westbury Sale, yesterday and this morning, with the full spectrum of price and quality amongst the offering. Consistently the nice quality horses have sold well, but unfortunately we simply didn't have the depth of catalogue this year and the reality is that there just isn't the market for those horses weak on both pedigree and type. "

The weanling average for the combined weanling sessions showed a drop to $8,345 from last year's overall average of $10,635. The overall clearance rate remained steady, finishing up at 84% (up from 81% last year), with a combined median of $2,900, down from $5,000.

OVERALL SALE RESULTS

Petrea Vela summed up the past two days of selling, "Throughout the past two days vendors have met the market so we have seen a solid clearance rate of 82% overall. There hasn't been a lack of interest for good lots, but overall we have seen a difference in the quality of horses offered from those offered at this sale last year and the results have reflected that."

Including 14 supplementary entries offered over the course of the day, the Sale has so far grossed $2,546,000 for 314 horses sold, and will conclude tomorrow with a further 207 mares and two stallion shares catalogued for sale.
