The Ready to Run Sale started with a roar today, signaling what was to come, with Lot 1 selling to HY Cheng for $400,000 with the colt by El Roca is likely destined for Malaysia.
It was an emotional moment for vendor Eion Kemp of Kilgravin Lodge after Lot 45 fetched a record price for his Matamata-based operation. The Written Tycoon colt, sold for $725,000 online to the bid of Blandford Bloodstock and Andrew Williams Bloodstock.
Fireworks in the Karaka sales ring resulted in the half-brother to Lucky Sweynesse selling for $550,000 to the bid of Laming Racing & John White Bloodstock. Richard Laming was delighted to secure the well-related colt, while Manfred Man, trainer of the Hong Kong Champion Lucky Sweynesse, was the underbidder.
The Riversley Park team were thrilled when Lot 123, a Harry Angel gelding, sold for $85,000 to Richard Lim. ‘Harry’ as he is affectionately known is a staff horse, with four of the Riversely team having shares in him.

The records kept tumbling at the 2023 Ready to Run Sale with Lot 376, a Star Turn colt, topping the Sale and setting a new record of $825,000 only minutes from the end of the day. An emotional Kit Brooks was thrilled with the result, topping off a super few days for the Cambridge-based polo player’s operation, KB Bloodstock.
Just before he jetted back home, Jessie Gower spoke to Richard Laming after his shopping spree at the Ready to Run Sale, co-purchasing four lots with John White Bloodstock. They secured the much-anticipated half-sister to Kovalica, Lot 298 by Super Seth from Kilgravin Lodge and the half-brother to Hong Kong Champion Lucky Sweynesse in Lot 116 (Contributer) from Woburn Farm.
Willie Leung spoke to Jessie Gower on behalf of leading buyer Mr Yeung Kin Man after he went to $800,000 to secure Lot 289, an All Too Hard colt, from the draft of Riversley Park. In what has been Mr Yeung’s first visit to New Zealand, he has enjoyed the atmosphere of the Sale and spent $2.5m on quality two-year-olds.
