Frankel Leads Freshman Sires at Karaka

The highest rated horse of all time, Frankel leads an impressive class of freshman sires at Karaka 2016.

The first yearling by Frankel to be offered at auction in the Southern Hemisphere is catalogued in the Premier Sale at lot 445. The colt is out of Our Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel), Pencarrow Stud’s blueblood family which includes Darci Brahma, Burgundy, Romanee Conti and Ethereal. The colt will be one of many star attractions over the two days of the Premier Sale.
New Zealand Horse of the Year Ocean Park (Thorn Park) has the highest representation with 57 yearlings. Westbury Stud’s Reliable Man (Dalakhani) with 51 yearlings, is also well represented.
“New Zealand stallions are performing incredibly well at the moment. Add to that the strength of the first season sires on offer and I’m sure buyers are going to be most impressed with what they see at Karaka,” commented New Zealand Bloodstock’s Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.
Karaka will feature 17 freshman sires representing 312 yearlings across the Premier, Select and Festival Sales, including:
All Too Hard was a four-time Group 1 winner as a three-year-old. He has four yearlings in the Premier Sale, including:
- A half-sister to Group 3 RA Lee Stakes winner Rhythm To Spare (NZ) (Pins) catalogued lot 87.
- A half-brother to Group 3 Sires’ Produce winner Stirling Grove (Mossman) catalogued lot 338.
American shuttle sire Animal Kingdom, won two of the world's most iconic races, the Group 1 Kentucky Derby and the Group 1 Meydan Dubai World Cup. He has one yearling in the Premier Sale.
- A half-sister to Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes winner Toydini (Bernardini) catalogued lot 332.
With only one Southern Hemisphere crop, Azamour is a four-time European Group 1 winner and the sire of three Group 1 winners in the Northern Hemisphere. He has 24 yearlings catalogued including:
- A half-brother to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Honor Babe (Honor Grades) catalogued lot 319.
A three-quarter brother to 10-time Group 1 winner Frankel, is Bullet Train, a Group 3 winner himself. Bradbury Park offers one yearling by him:

The impeccably bred Burgundy is a son of Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice out of Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner Grand Echezeaux, making him a three-quarter-brother to successful sire Darci Brahma. He has 20 yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 including:
- A half-brother to Group 1 Australian Oaks and Group 1 Victorian Oaks winner Serenade Rose (Stravinsky) catalogued lot 41.

Coolmore Stud’s shuttle stallion Excelebration was a three-time Group 1 winner over 1600m and rated third best miler in the world in 2011. He has two yearlings catalogued:

- A colt out of Cousin Katerina (NZ) (Stravinsky) catalogued lot 810.
Mapperley Stud’s He’s Remarkable is a stakes winning son of Champion Sire Pentire. He has 20 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:

The son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Highly Recommended was a Group 2 winner at three. He has 17 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:
