Tremec on Target for Sydney Cup

19 March 2013

Sir Tristram’s success with the Japan Cup winner Horlicks is well documented and that performing nick struck again on Saturday with Tremec winning the A$100,000 Listed Randwick City Stakes (2200m) at Sydney.

Sir Tristram crossed very successfully with Horlicks producing the Melbourne Cup winner Brew and Group 2 Avondale Guineas winner Bubble and his sire son Zabeel has also proven successful with the family having sired Fiumicino out of Latte, a daughter of Horlicks, who won the AJC Derby and BMW Stakes.

Tremec (Zabeel x Tipple) is a close relation to Fiumicino and he confirmed that he is on track for a tilt at the Group 1 Sydney Cup as he won his first stakes race at his first attempt on Saturday, beating the classy Group 2 winning import Permit.

The John Thompson trained gelding also showed his ability to complete quick sectionals having run the last 600 metres of the race in 34.29 seconds.

The four-year-old son of Zabeel is racing in good form this season having won three of his last four starts and placing at his last start at Warwick Farm and has now won five of his 14 starts for over A$150,000.

Tremec was bred by Hawke’s Bay breeder Graham De Gruchy who bred and raced Horlicks who went on to win six races at Group 1 level. Tremec was purchased by Patinack Farm from Wentwood Grange at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $400,000.

Tremec is the 145th stakes winner for his phenomenal sire Zabeel.
